How Do I Get a Mailbox Key?

With properties that have a mailbox key (usually condo buildings or other large developments), we usually have a key that we provide at move-in, but there are some cases when we don’t have a key, usually because the property owner never had one for whatever reason.

When that happens, you will need to apply with the Post Office to get a new key. The Post Office will not allow us to do this for you; they require it to be done by the occupant of the property. You will need to go to the Post Office with a copy of your lease and your photo ID so they can verify your residency. The key is usually $25, and in most cases it will take 2-4 weeks for them to get you a new key. During that time without a mailbox key, you will need to pick up your mail directly from the Post Office. They should hold it there for you while waiting on the key to be ready.
